Minneapolis: BIG Things POPPIN!

19 02 2011

Reflecting on today….***sighs….  If you only knew how amazing some of my days can be!

I was humbled and honored to have a great role in an incredible event friends!  Today would you believe all roads led me to a swanky “invite only” event held at the amazing headquarters of one of my hometown’s most sparkling gems, Best Buy Corporate Headquarters!

This place attracts some major music industry artists to Minnesota, it is a traditional trip for breaking artists to come to Best Buy to perform and sign the big deals that place their music in Best Buy stores everywhere….ya betta ask about BB.  🙂  The place is DOPENESS!   Just look at Justin Bieber at Best Buy Minnesota!

…heard Lil Wayne was there a few weeks ago with Baby giving away mini ipods filled with his entire catalog!

The event, UNCF Minnesota’s Leadership Luncheon brought out some of Minnesota’s most esteemed African-American leaders and rising young stars. Organized by my long-time mentor, friend and sister, Sharon Smith-Akinsanya (The Area Development Director of the UNCF (and a certified Marketing Genius).

My beautiful, wonderful sister Ms. Kimberly Steward and Super Stylist Darnell were there shining brightly along side also!  We made a killer team!  Everyone who is anyone was in this room I tell ya!

Shiloh Temple International Pastor Andre Dukes, (also the Director of Engagement, Northside Achievement Zone) delivered the moving and touching Invocation, I definitely need to check out his church!

We all were able to spend some up close and personal time with many leaders you should begin to follow immediately if you are not already.  These high power leaders can help you in whatever you are doing all across the country.  Minneapolis’s talent pool is simply amazing, check on US!

I was especially honored to meet, Governor Mark Dayton, The President of the UNCF, Michael Lomax, Rose McGee of AchieveMpls, RT Rybak.  Dr. Hallie B. Hendrieth, a warrior Queen for the community was honored as a UNCF Community Flamebearer for her dedication to education in Minneapolis.  Her speech knocked me off my feet and I was touched. Mayor Sayles Belton (who is moving to NYC) was even present, and her smile can still light up rooms!

As this sparkling day unfolded, I also had the pleasure of spending time hanging with some notable long-term friends and local scene-sters such as Mr. and Mrs. Pete & Kim Rhodes of Black Music America– Comcast, Brett Buckner, Ezell Jones, Al and Batala McFarlane from Insight News.  As well as some high profile corporate gurus, such as Brien Kennedy, Vice President and General Manager of WCCO TV, Bob Bass, President of AT & T Minnesota and many more!

The lunch menu was beyond yummy!

Ended my day at the radio station then off to see a movie……whew!
